Host rules template

By submitting a listing on Voluntouring.org, hosts agree to these basic rules. The goal is simple: keep opportunities clear, fair, and safe for everyone.

Quick summary

Clear hours
Specific tasks
Real days off
Supervision
No staff replacement
No hidden fees

What your listing must include

Please describe the opportunity so a volunteer can understand it before travelling. Include expected weekly hours, a typical daily schedule, and regular days off.

List specific tasks and learning activities in advance. Avoid vague wording like “help with everything” unless you also explain what that means in practice.

Be honest about accommodation and meals, including any conditions (shared rooms, quiet hours, kitchen access, transport limits). If there are any costs, state them clearly. No hidden fees or later payments.

What we do not accept

Listings must not use volunteers as a substitute for paid staff or to cover essential business roles. We also avoid roles that look like commercial staffing needs presented as “exchange.”

  • No replacing paid staff or covering essential operations.
  • No commercial shifts, night shifts, or full responsibility roles.
  • No pressure tactics or unclear expectations.

Safety, supervision, and respect

Hosts should provide supervision and basic training for all tasks. When tasks involve risk, provide safety guidance and protective equipment.

Respect volunteer privacy and personal time. Ask permission before using photos or stories of volunteers.

Do not request personal documents beyond what is necessary. Hosts are responsible for respecting local rules related to labour, safety, and immigration. Rules vary, so we encourage checking what applies locally.

Review and removal

Listings may be reviewed, edited, paused, or removed if they are unclear, misleading, reported as unsafe, or if they appear to replace paid work.
