School in Paradise, also known as Škola v ráji, is a Czech-founded non-profit based in Lombok, Indonesia that has been running since 2013. It began by building and supporting schools in under-resourced areas like Petiwung, but over the years it has evolved into a full-fledged English-teaching and community education initiative. The organization hosts intensive language courses for kids and young adults, helping them prepare for exams and tourism-related careers.
What sets School in Paradise apart is its strong local partnerships and volunteer-driven spirit. It was officially founded in 2016 by Andrea Stárková—who has been on the island since 2010—and Czech scholarship on-site teachers. Co-founders Marcel and Filip Žitník (from Go2 Travel Agency) provide financial and organizational support. oday, a growing team, including volunteer coordinator Tereza Kábelová, continues to run English courses, build school infrastructure, and organize eco and cultural programs in collaboration with local educators and NGOs. Volunteers are a vital part of the model. Those who join are welcomed into local schools or community centers to teach English, help in curriculum development, support eco initiatives, or assist with children’s programs. No matter their background, volunteers work alongside local staff to enrich the learning experience and support sustainable development goals .
