Help Daniele restore a 9-apartment building in Marina di San Lorenzo, Calabria. 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Private room, food, and local excursions.

Daniele hosts volunteers in Marina di San Lorenzo near Reggio Calabria, in exchange for help restoring a building of 9 flats plus garden work and occasional guest-related tasks. The help requested is around 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, usually starting at 8am, with free accommodation, food, and home facilities included. Tasks can include masonry, electrical and water installations, cleaning, gardening, and welcoming guests during summer rentals. The idea is to build a friendly volunteer “family” and explore the area together, including weekend boat trips when possible.

I am recruiting volunteers and offering them board and lodging near Reggio Calabria!

These are wild thistle heads photographed in Italy, in a dry, open landscape of hills and scrub. The plants have finished flowering and the heads are now straw-coloured, with a rough “crown” of bracts around the base. In late summer and early autumn this is a common sight in many Italian inland areas, especially where soil is stony and grass turns pale. Even when the blooms are gone, thistles still matter: their seeds feed birds, and their tall stems add structure to the field, giving small insects a place to rest. If you look closely, you can often spot tiny holes where insects have fed or where seeds have already fallen. These dried heads also show how tough the plant is, built to survive heat, wind, and long weeks without rain.
