May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Volunteers planting young trees at sunset on a hillside. Overlaid text reads, “May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.”

May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Traditional Sanskrit mantra known as Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu; the second line (“may the thoughts, words, and actions…”) is a modern extension popular in yoga communities, including Jivamukti.
This blessing fits volunteer travel perfectly. Let your day’s choices add a little more kindness to the places you visit. Plant a tree, listen to a neighbor’s story, share a skill, and care for the land as if it were your own. Small actions grow into a wider circle of wellbeing when we keep this intention close.
