It’s the will not the skill

Woman paddling a kayak on crystal clear blue water, wearing a straw hat, with forested islands in the distance. Quote on the image reads, “It’s the will, not the skill.”

“It’s the will, not the skill.”

Often attributed to Jim Tunney, longtime NFL referee and speaker. He used this line as the title of his 2005 book It’s the Will, Not the Skill, and it has since circulated widely online.
Travel and volunteering reward determination. You will not know every skill on day one. What moves you forward is showing up, asking for guidance, practicing with patience, and trying again after mistakes. With steady effort the skills follow. Keep your focus on the next good stroke of the paddle, the next helpful task, the next clear conversation with your host.
