Mamas for Burundi (MAFOBA) is a grassroots organization committed to empowering women and girls in Burundi through education, economic development, and advocacy. Their initiatives address social injustices, gender inequality, and barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential.
1. Educating Girls & Preventing Early Marriage
MAFOBA runs awareness campaigns about the dangers of child marriage and early pregnancies, as seen in their projects addressing reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention. They provide young girls with access to education and training, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.
2. Economic Empowerment for Women
MAFOBA supports women’s entrepreneurship by helping them develop income-generating activities such as farming, tailoring, and small businesses. This economic independence strengthens families and communities.
3. Access to Reproductive & Health Services
Many girls and women in rural Burundi lack access to reproductive health education and services. MAFOBA provides resources and training to prevent unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence.
4. Fighting Gender-Based Violence & Advocating for Rights
The organization actively works to prevent gender-based violence by educating communities on women’s rights and advocating for policies that protect women and girls.
5. Civic Education & Leadership Training
MAFOBA trains young women in leadership and civic engagement, empowering them to become community leaders and advocates for gender equality.
Join the Movement
By supporting MAFOBA, individuals and organizations can help change the lives of Burundian women and girls. Whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy, everyone can play a role in empowering communities and breaking cycles of poverty and inequality.
