Hello everybody! ๐ I had some amazing volunteer experiences during my solo world trip, so I convinced my sister to try it out as a host.
About the host family and the farm
Christine and her family are a team of five: Christine (39), Simon (43), and their three kids (12, 8, and 4). They live and work in a 240-year-old traditional farmhouse that has been fully renovated, in Tyrol, Austria. They have cows, goats, a horse, chickens, a cat, and lots of daily farm life. The family loves animals and enjoys sharing simple, peaceful rural routines.
They do organic farming and grow part of their own food. Simon also works full time as a consultant, and Christine works part time as a primary school and special education teacher, while running the household, the farm, and a holiday flat.
Volunteer in Austria: what you will do
Right now, distance learning can be challenging, so they would love some help practicing English with the kids, especially the 12-year-old boy who loves animals. Besides teaching English, they ask for help with everyday tasks:
- household support (cooking, cleaning)
- play with the children and go for walks together
- optional support with animals (feeding), and in summer helping in the garden, harvesting, haymaking, and general landscape work
Exchange and benefits
In exchange for about 5 hours a day, you get room and board.
They are friendly and open-minded, and they have hosted volunteers before. They appreciate people with a positive attitude toward work and shared family life.
Accommodation and requirements
You will have your own room with your own bathroom. If their holiday apartment is free, you could stay there.
No smokers please. The family prefers a healthy lifestyle.
Language
You need a basic level of German. The family can help you improve your German and share ideas about sustainable living.
Free time: things you can do nearby
In winter: skiing, sledging, cross-country skiing, and more. The ski area โSKI JUWEL Alpbachtal Wildschรถnauโ is close by. Visit: https://www.skijuwel.com/en/winter
In summer: hiking, mountain walks, alpine nature, and lakes.
The farm is about 1 hour from Innsbruck and about 20 minutes from Wรถrgl. You can also reach the area by public transport (bus stop about 1 km away).
