Many people have heard of sustainable development, but few truly understand the meaning of this popular term that is widely used by governments, corporations, environmental and social organizations, and even the media. There are many definitions of sustainability, but we have chosen the following:

Sustainability is meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (UN World Commission on the Environment and Development, 1987).

The main challenge for our present and future is how to live on this planet with a population that has already exceeded 7.7 billion people, without destroying natural systems, in a dignified and equitable manner for all, and without exceeding the ability to support waste caused by our production activities.

Volunteering Around the World… for Independent Travellers!

Some of these opportunities are completely free (you receive free food and accommodation in exchange for voluntary work ). Others require a daily/monthly contribution fee for food and accommodation. Keep in mind that many areas of the world are still developing and volunteering can’t always be a “free” thing.

If you want to make an impact but only have a few weeks to volunteer abroad, we recommend choosing the paid opportunities. This way, you’ll not only contribute your skills, but also your money, which is usually better than paying for a “western hotel” or a tourist village owned by a foreign company.

It’s important to note that our website, Voluntouring, is not a touristic agency and does not take any intermediation fees from the organizations listed on our website. This is why the prices for the volunteering experiences are much lower than those offered by other professional agencies.
