What is scuba diving? 🤿
Scuba diving is an underwater activity in which divers use breathing equipment that allows them to breathe while submerged. Unlike snorkeling or freediving, scuba diving involves carrying an independent supply of breathing gas, usually in a cylinder. It is practised for recreation, scientific research, underwater photography, conservation and other specialised activities.
Scuba diving and diving centres
Scuba diving describes an activity, while Diving centres describes the host setting. Some volunteer programmes combine diving with reef surveys or marine conservation, while others offer practical roles at dive centres, such as reception, equipment preparation or administration.
Working at a dive centre does not necessarily mean that volunteers will participate in organised dives. Check whether diving forms part of the placement, is included as training or is available separately at an additional cost.
