Ocean 🌊
Explore ocean-related volunteering opportunities where the sea is a genuine part of the activities, mission or working environment. Projects may involve marine research, conservation, lifeguarding, sailing, coastal cleanups, reef monitoring or other practical work connected directly with the ocean.
This archive is broader than marine conservation alone. The important distinction is that the ocean should play a substantial role in the opportunity rather than simply being nearby.
What counts as an ocean-related opportunity? 🌊
An ocean-related opportunity involves activities or objectives that depend significantly on the sea, such as marine research, reef conservation, lifeguarding, sailing, ocean education or marine litter work. Simply staying near a beach or having access to the coast during free time is not normally enough on its own.
Activities and water safety
Ocean-based roles can involve very different levels of skill and risk. Diving, lifeguarding, open-water swimming, sailing and wildlife research may require specific qualifications, training, supervision and insurance. Confirm the actual activities, equipment, safety procedures and emergency arrangements before participating.
How to use this page

If the project involves diving, boats or work with marine wildlife, make sure your insurance covers the specific activities and check any certification, permit or professional requirements that apply.
