What is minimalism? ❀
Minimalism is an approach to living that intentionally reduces possessions, consumption or unnecessary complexity in order to give greater priority to what a person considers useful or important. It often overlaps with simple living, but someone can live simply without identifying as a minimalist, and minimalism does not require living off-gridOff-grid refers to a place or lifestyle operating partly or fully independently from public utilities, often using its own systems for electricity, water or waste. or in a tiny homeA tiny house is a very small dwelling designed to provide essential living functions within a compact space, sometimes built on wheels..
Experiencing minimalist living
Volunteer projects connected with minimalism may involve compact or basic accommodation, shared resources, community living, repairing and reusing materials, growing food or living with fewer conventional comforts. Ask what the lifestyle actually involves before assuming that a particular philosophy or level of simplicity will suit you.
Minimalism is also not automatically environmentally sustainable. Living with fewer possessions can reduce some forms of consumption, but the actual environmental impact still depends on housing, energy, transport, food, materials and other everyday choices.
