Staying in Bern is a small, community-run project in the heart of Switzerland’s capital that offers a free shared stay in exchange for helping the initiative. It isn’t a hostel or paid program: guests sleep in a simple “Staying House” and contribute a few hours a day to keep the space and community running. Typical help includes greeting and orienting new arrivals, answering messages, keeping common areas friendly and tidy, coordinating small activities, and—if you like online work—supporting light communications or basic IT/website tweaks. The vibe is inclusive and international (students, refugees, LGBTQIA+, digital nomads and locals); English is common, German welcome. Most people start with a two–three day trial; the suggested minimum stay is about two weeks, and beds are limited and shared. You “pay” by participating and helping – not with money.

Staying in Bern – community-run volunteer stay (Switzerland)

Hello,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Eliana Jubran, and I am very interested in volunteering or doing a work exchange at your hotel.
I am motivated, responsible, and happy to help with tasks such as reception support, housekeeping, cleaning, helping guests, or any other assistance you may need. I enjoy meeting people from different cultures and contributing positively to a team.
I would love the opportunity to support your place in exchange for accommodation (and meals if available). I am flexible with dates and working hours, and I am happy to provide more information about myself if needed.
Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
