This volunteer opportunity in Calgary, Alberta, Canada supports the creation of Sanctuary on Wheels, a project designed to bring comfort and companionship to people facing dementia, grief, crisis, or end-of-life situations. The initiative combines community support with the calming presence of trained Briard therapy dogs.
Volunteers can help with the practical work needed to convert a bus into a mobile sanctuary. Tasks may include painting, organizing materials, assisting with insulation, or supporting simple carpentry activities. Volunteers who prefer quieter tasks can also spend time helping with the daily care and routines of the Briards.
Accommodation and meals are provided in a peaceful private home environment. Volunteers usually contribute around 2–3 hours per day, five days per week, with two days off to relax or explore the area.
During free time, volunteers can discover Calgary’s parks, riverside pathways, cafés, and museums, or take weekend trips to nearby mountain destinations such as Banff, Canmore, or Kananaskis.
