Lothlorien Therapeutic Community is currently recruiting two volunteer co-workers to join their community. They are particularly interested in female applicants but welcome all applicants. This live-in role provides an opportunity for personal growth and practical experience in areas such as social work or counselling. The community is committed to supporting co-workers through weekly group supervision and regular individual supervision, as well as offering opportunities for training such as SVQ level 3, Non-violent communication, Mental Health First Aid, and Adult Support & Protection.
About Lothlorien
Lothlorien Community, located in Scotland, offers an alternative way of supporting people with mental health problems through living in a community and working together. This community also provides opportunities for volunteers to experience personal growth and practical training in the social care field. The community has four co-workers who live alongside residents, and they are involved in various domestic chores, working in the vegetable gardens and grounds, and supporting people in times of distress. The co-workers play a vital role in creating a culture of mutual support that encourages the residents to develop their strengths and contribute to community life.
Commitment
In order to join the Lothlorien community, a minimum commitment of 6 months is required, but it is recommended that co-workers stay for at least one year to ensure continuity and stability within the community. The maximum stay allowed is 2 years. The community welcomes applications from people of all ages over 21, as they like to have a mixture of ages in the co-worker team, ranging from their early 20s to late 60s.
Volunteers benefits
Co-workers are provided with free room and board, and some expenses related to study time away from the community may be covered. The commitment expected from co-workers is not like that of a regular 9 to 5 job, but it is expected that they will spend time with the community in leisure as well as work times while recognizing that everyone needs time on their own. Due to the demanding nature of the role, it is required that co-workers take some time away from Lothlorien.
All co-workers are required to go through enhanced criminal records disclosure through the Central Registered Body for Scotland.
CONTACT DETAILS ๐๐ง
If interested in joining the community, a completed application form should be sent to the Manager. Vacancies typically arise every 3 months, although there are often more applicants than vacancies. If selected for an interview, the first step is to come for a day visit, during which both the applicant and the community can determine if Lothlorien is the right place for them. If the day visit goes well, the next step is to come for a week’s trial visit, during which a formal interview will be conducted. The whole community is involved in the decision regarding the selection of new co-workers.
