Be a part of our off-grid farm community as we develop the means for global ecological sustainability!
Off-grid farm community โย We are 12 people who share communally in the daily life of running an off-grid organic farm as a viable demonstration that a fulfilling life is possible with negligible fossil fuel. We share housing, income, meals, and support each other in all aspects of our farm and sustainable technology research and development.

We usually ask for a commitment of three to six months from our volunteers. Volunteers work 35-40 hours a week in exchange for room and board. Ideally, a visit is arranged for a few days beforehand to decide if itโs the right fit.
We want volunteers who share our goals of developing and promoting environmental sustainability on a global level, and who wish to work earnestly towards that goal. We have lots of projects going on: weโre fully energy self-sufficient at the residential level, and working to spread our DC Microgrid model far and wide. Weโre improving our cooking and farm-grown fuel for small machines. When weโre not doing technology development work, we are farming, and growing and processing both food and seeds. In other words, weโre really busy people!

Geography ๐ณ
Our 120 acres are slightly hilly, mostly forested, but solar cleared right around our farmhouse. Although we are just a few miles from small town Louisa, we are buffered with forest and are 1/2 mile from the road, so it feels remote. Summer months can be hot, in the high 80s and less so in the low 90s.
How to get to your site โ ๐บ
Public transportation to Charlottesville VA is the best way for us to help you finish the last leg of your trip to our rural farm. We encourage people to avoid air travel because of its carbon-intensive environmental impact.
Is there internet access? ๐
Yes, but not very strong.
