Explore educational farm volunteering opportunities involving practical agriculture, farm-based learning, permaculture, regenerative practices, animal care, gardening and other projects where education or skills sharing is part of the experience.

Educational farms can take many forms. Some welcome volunteers to learn through everyday farm activities, while others organise workshops, demonstrations, community programmes or environmental education alongside agricultural work.

Not every farm is necessarily an educational farm. This tag is intended for projects where learning, training, knowledge sharing or educational activities are a meaningful part of the host’s work.

Some listings may be seasonal, archival or no longer active. Always check the publication date and confirm the current activities and conditions directly with the host before making travel plans.

How to use this page

Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the host’s website, email address or application procedure.

Before applying, confirm the farm activities, learning opportunities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Voluntouring does not organise placements, select participants, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between travellers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an opportunity.

Learning and farm work

An educational component does not remove the need for fair working conditions. Ask how much of the experience is genuinely focused on learning or skills sharing and how much consists of routine productive farm work.

If volunteers perform regular duties that would otherwise be carried out by paid agricultural workers, particularly on a commercial farm, the arrangement may be subject to employment and immigration rules even when accommodation or training is provided.

Farm safety

Educational farm activities can involve tools, machinery, animals, heavy lifting, uneven ground, chemicals and outdoor work in changing weather conditions. Ask what training, protective equipment and supervision will be provided.

Volunteers should not operate unfamiliar machinery, handle pesticides, administer veterinary treatments or undertake specialised agricultural work without appropriate experience and supervision.
