Things you shouldn’t do when engaging in Facebook groups ℹ️

Facebook group guidelines

This screenshot shows a Facebook group moderation queue with several very general “I want to volunteer in [country]” requests. The big red X suggests these posts were declined. In many volunteering abroad groups, the reason is simple: the question has been asked many times already, and it is too broad to get useful replies.

Moderators often ask new members to use the group search before posting. A quick search can surface detailed answers, trusted hosts, red flags, and past discussions about fees and expectations, without waiting for new comments. It also keeps the feed from filling up with the same destination requests every day.

How to get approved and get better answers
Search the group first, then post a specific question. Include dates, location, skills you offer, realistic availability (hours per week), and budget. If you mention “fee-free” opportunities, be clear about what you can cover (food, transport, visas) and ask what any fee includes, instead of assuming it should be free.
