Yachtmaster ⛵🧭
Explore Yachtmaster jobs and volunteer opportunities where advanced skippering, navigation or bridge experience is genuinely relevant to the role. Opportunities may involve sailing vessels, campaign ships, yachts, charter operations or other maritime projects looking for experienced crew.
Some positions may specifically request an RYA Yachtmaster qualification, while others accept an equivalent maritime certificate or documented professional experience. Check the exact requirements in each announcement.
What is a Yachtmaster qualification? ⛵🧭
RYA Yachtmaster® is a Certificate of Competence for experienced skippers, available at Coastal, Offshore and Ocean levels and for sailing or power vessels. It assesses practical experience, navigation, boat handling and crew management. Professional maritime roles may require additional certification or a commercial endorsement, depending on the vessel, position and area of operation.
Yachtmaster roles and maritime opportunities
Relevant positions may involve skippering, bridge watchkeeping, navigation, passage planning, crew supervision or other responsibilities where advanced maritime competence is required. Some are volunteer roles, while others are seasonal or professional paid positions.
A general crew, deckhand or sailing opportunity should not automatically be classified as Yachtmaster. The tag is intended for positions where this qualification, an equivalent certificate or comparable skipper-level experience is explicitly relevant.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm whether the opportunity is volunteer, paid or another form of crew arrangement. Verify the required certificate, commercial endorsement if applicable, sea time, medical or first-aid requirements, expected duties, voyage dates, accommodation, meals and insurance directly with the organisation or vessel operator.
Maritime certification and manning requirements depend on the vessel, flag, operating area and type of activity. Do not assume that a qualification accepted for recreational sailing automatically authorises professional work in every jurisdiction.
Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification or endorsement of a vessel, employer, maritime qualification or crew arrangement.
