What does tent accommodation mean?
Depending on the project, volunteers may stay in a standard camping tent, bell tent, glamping tent, tipi or another temporary outdoor structure. Accommodation may be private or shared, and some hosts provide the complete setup while others ask participants to bring their own equipment.
Before accepting an opportunity, confirm whether the tent, mattress and bedding are provided, whether there is secure storage for personal belongings and what toilets, showers, cooking facilities and drinking-water arrangements are available.

Confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Weather, facilities and safety
Tent accommodation can be affected by heat, cold, rain, wind, insects and seasonal conditions. Ask the host what temperatures and weather conditions are typical during your stay and whether alternative shelter is available during severe weather.
Confirm access to safe drinking water, sanitation, lighting, electricity where relevant and a realistic emergency procedure. Campsites and outdoor projects should also have appropriate fire-safety arrangements and clear rules for cooking or using open flames.
If the site is remote, check mobile coverage, access to medical assistance and how you could leave independently if necessary. Make sure your insurance covers the location and the activities involved.
