Staying in a tent does not necessarily mean volunteering at a campsite or participating in an organised camping programme.
Living in a tent during a volunteer exchange
Before accepting an opportunity, ask whether the tent, mattress, sleeping bag and bedding are provided or whether you need to bring your own equipment. Also confirm access to showers, toilets, drinking water, electricity, cooking facilities and secure storage for personal belongings.
Weather conditions can affect outdoor accommodation considerably. Ask about seasonal temperatures, rain, wind, insects and available shelter during severe weather. For remote projects, check mobile coverage, emergency arrangements and access to transport or medical assistance.
