Simple living – a description

Living a simple life is about “going backwards” so that you have room to breathe. It is about doing the same with less because you realise that having more and doing more does not lead to happiness.

There is no single definition of a simple life, everyone has their own concept of simplicity. But regardless of this, living a simple life means simplifying, eliminating everything that is superfluous. A simple lifestyle is based on the renunciation of what is not essential in all areas of life.

This means reducing consumption, waste, reducing stress, worries, commitments, etc. For someone, living a simple life may mean moving to the countryside and living in close contact with nature, for someone else it may mean living a life of minimalism. Whatever the concept of a simple life, it is always based on the desire to free oneself from chaos and live a quiet life, perhaps with more free time at one’s disposal, as downshifting advocates.

Living simply does not mean  not working

Simplifying your life is not something you can achieve overnight. People living a simple life often give up a secure salary for a more “human” life. However, this does not mean doing nothing all day.
