A ranch is a rural property mainly used for raising or managing grazing animals, such as cattle, sheep or horses. Ranches often include pastures, paddocks, fences, barns and other facilities needed for animal care. Some also offer horse riding, guest accommodation or agricultural activities. The meaning and size of a ranch can vary between countries.
Volunteering on a ranch
Typical tasks may include feeding and watering animals, cleaning stables, repairing fences, moving hay, maintaining equipment and looking after outdoor areas. Horse ranches may also need help with grooming, groundwork or preparing horses for riding, depending on the volunteer’s experience.
Not every ranch offers riding lessons or opportunities to ride. If you are particularly interested in horses, check which activities are actually included. Some roles require previous experience with livestock, machinery or animal handling.
