Explore mantra chanting volunteer opportunities connected with yoga communities, ashrams, retreats, festivals and other projects where mantra practice forms a genuine part of the experience.
Depending on the host, participants may encounter mantra through meditation, devotional singing, group chanting, yoga practice or community gatherings. The role of these practices varies considerably between traditions and projects.
What is a mantra? 🕉️
A mantra is a sacred utterance, sound, syllable, word or phrase used in religious, ritual or meditative practice. Mantras are particularly associated with Hindu and Buddhist traditions and may be spoken, sung or repeated silently as part of prayer, meditation or contemplation.
Mantra, chanting and kirtan
These practices can overlap but are not identical. A project may include devotional singing, kirtan or other forms of chanting without specifically using mantras. Check the host’s description to understand what practices are actually offered and whether participation is optional or part of the daily routine.
