Voluntouring primarily focuses on volunteering and work exchangesA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host., but we also publish a limited number of clearly identified paid jobs when they may be relevant to international travellers or people looking for temporary work abroad.
What counts as a job offer? 💼
On this page, a job offer means a position presented as paid work, normally with a salary, wage or other clearly defined financial compensation for the work performed. A stipend, pocket money, expense reimbursement, tips or accommodation alone do not automatically make a volunteering or work exchange opportunity a paid job.
Paid jobs, stipends and pocket money
Different forms of financial support should not be confused. A paid job normally involves compensation for work, while a stipend may be a fixed allowance connected with a programme or placement. Pocket money is generally a modest personal allowance within a volunteering programme rather than a salary.
Commission, profit sharing and tips can form part of a paid role, but they are different from guaranteed wages. Read the individual listing carefully and ask how compensation is calculated before accepting a position.
How to use this page
Check the publication date, application deadline and proposed working period, as older vacancies may already be closed. Before accepting a position, ask for written information about the salary or wage, working hours, days off, legal employer, contract, accommodation and possible deductions, taxes or social security, insurance and any other employment conditions.
Being allowed to visit a country does not automatically mean that you are allowed to work there. Check the visa, residence and work-permit requirements that apply to your nationality and the position you are considering. An employer should not present ordinary paid employment as “volunteering” simply to avoid employment or immigration requirements.
