Inclusive volunteering 💙
Explore inclusive volunteering opportunities with hosts and organisations that provide practical information or support for people who may face barriers to participation because of disability, accessibility needs, neurodiversity, language, identity, financial circumstances or other factors.
Inclusion can take different forms depending on the project and the individual. Clear information about accommodation, tasks, communication, transport, schedules and available support can help volunteers decide whether an opportunity is suitable for their needs.
What makes volunteering more inclusive? 💙
Inclusive volunteering aims to reduce avoidable barriers to participation through clear information, respectful communication and practical adjustments. Depending on the project, this may involve physical accessibility, flexible tasks or schedules, accessible communication, quiet spaces, dietary arrangements, financial transparency or other forms of support. No single opportunity can meet every individual requirement, so practical conditions should always be confirmed before applying.
Accessibility and practical conditions
If you have particular access or support requirements, ask specific questions before committing. Useful details can include steps and entrances, bedroom and bathroom access, local transport, quiet or rest spaces, flexibility around tasks and working hours, communication methods and what assistance is actually available on site.
Also confirm whether additional transport, equipment, personal assistance or other accessibility-related costs are included or remain your responsibility.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm the current tasks, weekly hours, schedule, accommodation, meals, transport, minimum stay and any fees or deposits directly with the host. An opportunity described as inclusive may still have practical limitations, so ask about the conditions that matter specifically to you.
Some projects in this archive may also work with disabled people, children or other people requiring additional safeguarding. Supporting these groups does not necessarily mean that the volunteer placement itself is accessible. Where volunteer duties involve care, education or direct support, confirm supervision, safeguarding procedures and professional role boundaries. See also safer alternatives to volunteering with children.
Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification, endorsement or a guarantee that an opportunity can meet a participant’s individual accessibility or support needs.
