DiscoverEU is an initiative under the Erasmus+ program that offers 18-year-olds the opportunity to explore Europe’s cultural diversity and heritage.
Participants receive a travel pass, primarily for rail journeys, allowing them to visit multiple European countries. The program aims to foster a sense of European identity and unity among young travellers. To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years old on the first day of the travel period and be citizens or residents of EU Member States or third countries associated with the Erasmus+ program.
The application process includes an online form and a quiz.
Selected participants can travel for up to 30 days within a set travel period.
While the most recent application round closed on October 16, 2024, DiscoverEU typically holds two application rounds each year, one in spring and one in autumn. Prospective applicants should monitor the European Youth Portal for updates on upcoming application periods.
In addition to individual travel opportunities, DiscoverEU offers an Inclusion Action aimed at empowering young people with fewer opportunities. This initiative provides additional support to ensure a diverse range of participants can benefit from the program.
Group experiences
For those interested in structured group experiences, Erasmus+ also facilitates Youth Exchanges. These exchanges allow groups of young people from different countries to meet and collaborate on projects, fostering intercultural dialogue and learning.
