Explore queer volunteer opportunities with projects, communities and hosts that explicitly describe their spaces or activities as queer-led, queer-centred or directly connected with LGBTQ+ community life.
Opportunities can include community projects, retreats, cultural spaces, educational initiatives, makerspaces, events and other exchanges. Some are specifically created around queer or FLINTA* communities, while others include volunteer activities that support LGBTQ+ people or events.
What does queer mean? 🏳️🌈
Queer is an umbrella term that some people use for sexual orientations, gender identities or forms of expression outside conventional heterosexual or gender norms. Some people use the word proudly, while others prefer different terms. Projects may also use queer alongside LGBTQ+, FLINTA* or other terminology, so read each host’s description to understand who the space is intended for and how the term is being used.
Queer-led and queer-centred projects
Some opportunities are run by queer communities or intentionally create spaces around queer culture, peer learning, community life or inclusion. Others may involve practical volunteering alongside activities, workshops or events connected with LGBTQ+ communities.
Participation criteria can vary. Some projects welcome everyone, some specifically welcome LGBTQ+ participants or allies, and others may be intended for a particular community such as FLINTA*. Read the complete listing and respect the eligibility and boundaries described by the host.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm the current activities, weekly hours, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any fees or compensation. If inclusion or community environment is particularly important to you, ask practical questions about shared accommodation, privacy, house rules and what the host means when describing the space as queer or inclusive.
Laws and social attitudes concerning sexual orientation and gender identity vary between destinations. Check the current local context and any travel considerations relevant to you before making plans.
Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification that a host or destination will be suitable or safe for every participant.
