This section is for opportunities at properties that genuinely operate or identify as hostels. Shared volunteer accommodation, dormitory-style sleeping or a social atmosphere alone does not make a guesthouse, hotel, campsite or private home a hostel.
Hostels, guesthouses and hotels
Hospitality properties can overlap, but the host’s actual accommodation model should guide the tag. Use Guesthouses for properties operating as guesthouses and Hotels for hotels. A property may genuinely fit more than one section, but receiving guests or providing shared accommodation is not enough by itself.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm the exact tasks, weekly hours, shifts, days off, minimum stay, sleeping arrangements, meals or kitchen access, and any fees, deposits or compensation. If the role includes late reception shifts or nightlife activities, also ask about supervision, transport and emergency arrangements.
Many hostels are commercial accommodation businesses. Regular reception, housekeeping, food service or other operational duties may be treated as employment under local labour or immigration rules even when accommodation is provided instead of wages. Check the rules that apply to your destination and immigration status.
