The Himalayan region includes mountain valleys, rural settlements, towns and high-altitude environments with considerable cultural, linguistic and geographic diversity. Opportunities can therefore differ greatly in their activities, living conditions and accessibility.
Mountain conditions and altitude
Some Himalayan projects are located in remote or high-altitude areas where transport, weather, communications and access to medical assistance can be more challenging. If a placement involves trekking or significant altitude, check the elevation, physical requirements, seasonal conditions, insurance and any time needed for acclimatisation before travelling.
