German language 🗣️
Explore German-speaking volunteer opportunities where German is spoken, useful, preferred or required as part of the experience. These opportunities are not limited to Germany and may also be found in Austria, Switzerland, other parts of Europe and projects elsewhere in the world.
The role of German varies considerably. In some projects it is the main language used by the host or community, while elsewhere it may be useful for guest communication, cultural exchange, teaching, language practice or specific volunteer responsibilities.
What does German-speaking mean here? 🗣️
This page brings together opportunities where German has a practical role in the experience. It may be required or preferred for the position, commonly used by the host or community, or part of activities such as teaching, conversation practice or language exchange. Check each listing to understand how much German is actually needed.
German language, teaching and language exchange
A German-speaking opportunity does not necessarily involve teaching German. Projects where participants actually teach or support German lessons can also be found under Teaching German abroad. Informal conversation and mutual language practice may instead fall under Language exchange.
If German is listed as a requirement, ask what level is expected. Basic conversational German may be enough for some community exchanges, while reception, teaching, administration or professional roles may require stronger spoken and written skills.
