Explore volunteer and work exchangeA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host. opportunities located in or closely connected with canyon landscapes. These may include rural accommodation, outdoor centres, conservation projects or other hosts based near steep river valleys and gorges.
Depending on the location, free-time activities may include hiking, rafting, kayaking, climbing or canyoning. These activities are not necessarily part of the volunteer role, so check each listing carefully.
What is a canyon? ๐๏ธ
A canyon is a deep, relatively narrow valley with steep sides, often shaped over long periods by river erosion. The word gorge is frequently used for similar landforms, especially narrow and steep-sided ones.
Outdoor activities in canyon environments
Canyon areas can involve steep terrain, moving water, slippery rocks and rapidly changing weather conditions. If rafting, climbing, canyoning or another technical activity is offered, ask who supervises it, what experience is required and which safety equipment is provided.
