Canoeing or kayaking? 🛶
Canoeing generally involves paddling a canoe with a single-bladed paddle, while kayaking commonly uses a double-bladed paddle and a different type of craft. Water safety and supervision
Ask what level of paddling and swimming ability is expected, whether training is provided and which safety equipment volunteers must use. Appropriate personal flotation devices, weather awareness, emergency procedures and competent supervision are particularly important on remote or multi-day trips.
If volunteers supervise children or teenagers during water activities, responsibilities should be clearly defined and supported by appropriate safeguarding, first-aid and water-safety procedures.
