Why helping as a volunteer on an organic farm?
Small/Eco farmers often struggle to compete with large industrial farms.
Cultivating the land in an ecological manner often entails greater difficulty. Production yields may be lower or subject to the vagaries of environmental conditions (organic farmers do not use pesticides and other soil-damaging products).
This is why organic farmers need help. Travellers who want to experience life in contact with nature or people that want to learn about ecological farming can volunteer at organic farms or ecological communities to support the organic farmers’ work and learn the art of ecological and natural farming.
What are some examples of organic farm exchanges?
Volunteers who help and live on an organic farm can:
- milk cows
- sow
- clean gardens of weeds
- water plants and flowers
- prune
- collecting wood
- exercising horses
- feeding the chickens
- setting up vegetable gardens and ecological cultivation systems
etc. etc.
