Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.

Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, project dates and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Projects involving children, healthcare, animal care or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding, supervision and clear role boundaries. Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications.

Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme. Entry requirements and volunteering in Kenya

Entry requirements depend on your nationality and planned activities. Kenya operates an Electronic Travel Authorisation system, although some nationalities and other categories of travellers are exempt.

An eTA is permission to travel to Kenya and should not automatically be treated as permission to undertake employment or every form of structured volunteering or work exchange. Kenya has separate permits and passes for different types of work and other activities.

Check current entry requirements through the official Kenya eTA portal. If the project involves regular duties for an organisation, school, business or charitable institution, ask the host which immigration arrangement applies and verify it independently with the Kenya Directorate of Immigration Services.

Current travel considerations

Security conditions vary considerably by region. Current travel advice warns against travel to specific areas close to the Kenya-Somalia border and parts of the northern east coast because of terrorism and kidnapping risks.

If a project is located in north-eastern Kenya, Lamu County or another remote border area, confirm its exact location and consult current travel advice for Kenya before departure.
