Current safety notice for Sudan: As of August 2026, official travel advisories from several governments advise against all travel to Sudan because of the ongoing armed conflict and serious security risks. Older listings should not be treated as evidence that travel or volunteering is currently possible. Check the latest advice from your own government and consider postponing travel. See the current UK travel advice for Sudan and the U.S. Sudan travel advisory.
How to use this page
Open the listing that interests you and check its publication or latest update date. Some older opportunities may no longer be available, so contact the host directly to confirm. Look for the Contact details section at the end of the listing, where you may find an official website, email address, telephone number, social media page or application form.
Not every host can answer every message. If you do not receive a response, consider another listing and read the Voluntouring FAQ.
Accommodation, meals and contributions
Some opportunities provide food and accommodation at no cost in exchange for voluntary help. Other hosts may provide accommodation only or request a daily or monthly contribution towards meals, accommodation or project expenses.
A requested contribution does not automatically make a project more responsible or effective. Ask what the payment covers, who receives it and how it is used. Look for a clear price, secure payment method, receipt and cancellation policy before sending money.
Before travelling, confirm the activities, expected hours, days off, accommodation, meals, local transport, internet access, requested payments and personal expenses directly with the host.
Choosing a project responsibly
Consider whether the proposed activities match your qualifications and experience. Teaching, healthcare, childcare and other professional roles should have clear boundaries, appropriate supervision and any credentials required locally.
Projects involving children or vulnerable people require safeguarding procedures, privacy protections, suitable screening and supervision. Short-term volunteers should not replace trained local staff or receive unsupervised access to children. Read Voluntouring’s guidance on safer alternatives for volunteering with children.
Visas, health and local conditions
Visa, immigration, health and insurance requirements depend on your nationality, destination and proposed activities. Security conditions may also differ considerably between countries and between regions of the same country.
Before travelling, consult the destination country’s official immigration authorities, current government travel advice and appropriate medical guidance. Check vaccination requirements, access to healthcare, local laws and whether your insurance covers the complete trip and planned activities.
Voluntouring and the hosts listed on the website do not arrange visas, guarantee entry or provide travel insurance. Read the general guidance about visas for volunteering abroad and safety and legality.
Voluntouring is not a travel agency, employer, fundraising platform or placement service. It does not manage applications, participation fees, donations, visas, insurance or travel arrangements. Communication and any requested payment are arranged directly between the volunteer and the host.
