Teaching English in Vietnam with EHC in Ha Giang
Teaching English in Vietnam with Education for Ha Giang Highland Community (EHC) is a way to support ethnic minority youth while living in a small town in northern Vietnam. EHC is a local social enterprise in Vi Xuyen, Ha Giang, that combines teaching English, social projects and responsible travel to create better opportunities for young people and their families.
Our goals
- Help ethnic minority youth with English classes and better job opportunities.
- Support and protect the rights of highland women.
- Raise funds for warm clothes and basic needs for children in winter and in remote villages.
EHC also promotes responsible travel. Volunteers are encouraged to learn about local culture and cuisine and at the same time give a hand to improve life in the community. This is at the heart of EHCâs mission.
What are we looking for help with?
- Charity work and fundraising
- Teaching and language exchange
General info
Volunteers stay in a local house in Vi Xuyen Town, with a host family downstairs and the organisation space upstairs. You will teach English to children and young adults, help with simple social projects and join cultural exchanges. On free days, students often show volunteers around Ha Giang like local guides, visiting mountains, rice terraces and nearby villages.
Schedule and time commitment
The usual schedule is about 16 hours of help per week, around 4 hours per day for 4 days, with 3 days off for rest or exploring the province. The minimum stay is 2 weeks, and longer stays are welcome when possible. Exact timetables can change depending on classes and community activities, so please confirm the current plan with EHC before you book your trip.
