The Global Sumud Flotilla is a large-scale civilian mission launched in 2025 to break the naval blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, while raising global awareness of the Palestinian struggle. Coordinated by networks such as the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, it brings together activists, doctors, lawyers, sailors, artists, and delegates from more than forty countries, with over fifty vessels involved.
Participation is possible but selective. Applicants can join as crew members, delegates, or land-based supporters. The coalition provides online forms to channel applications according to experience and availability. Maritime roles require proven technical skills, while delegates are chosen for motivation, resilience, and commitment to strict nonviolence principles. Volunteers who lack nautical experience can still contribute by organizing local solidarity events, fundraising, communication work, or translation. Life at sea is demanding, with long watches, tight quarters, and constant training on safety and conflict management.
Following the flotilla is possible through the official Flotilla Tracker, coalition social media, partner networks, and international media coverage. Organizers also provide email updates and AIS tracking of the main vessel, Handala.
