What is sheep husbandry? 🐑
Sheep husbandry is the breeding, raising and management of domestic sheep. It includes feeding, grazing management, shelter, health monitoring and other aspects of animal care. Depending on the farm, sheep may be raised for wool, milk or meat, while sanctuaries provide care without necessarily using animals for agricultural production.
Volunteering with sheep
Activities may include feeding animals, providing fresh water, cleaning shelters, maintaining fences, moving grazing areas and helping with everyday farm routines. Some projects also introduce volunteers to shepherding, wool processing, cheesemaking or traditional rural skills.
Tasks involving lambing, shearing, veterinary care or specialised animal handling require appropriate knowledge and supervision. Ask which activities volunteers actually participate in and whether previous experience is necessary.
