Explore volunteer opportunities connected with mobile and travelling projects. These initiatives may use buses, vans, trailers or other portable spaces to bring education, community activities, outreach or practical support to different locations.
Volunteers may travel with the project, help prepare or operate a mobile unit, organise activities at different stops, support outreach work or contribute to the construction and maintenance of the vehicle or space.
What is a mobile project? 🚐
A mobile project brings activities or services to different places instead of operating entirely from one permanent site. Examples include mobile classrooms, travelling playgrounds, outreach vehicles, mobile community spaces and other projects built around a vehicle or portable unit.
Travelling with a mobile project
Mobile programmes can involve changing locations, frequent travel and different accommodation arrangements along the route. Before joining, ask where the project travels, how transport is organised, where volunteers sleep, how meals are provided and whether you are expected to drive or have a particular licence.
If the project works with children or vulnerable people, also check supervision, safeguarding procedures, role boundaries and who is professionally responsible for the activities. You can read our guidance on volunteering with children.
