What is homeschooling? 🎒🏠
Homeschooling, also called home education, generally refers to education organised by parents or guardians outside regular school attendance. Families may use structured curricula, tutors, practical projects, everyday activities or combinations of different approaches.
Homeschooling, unschooling and worldschooling
These approaches can overlap, but they are not identical. Unschooling places particular emphasis on self-directed learning and children’s interests, while Worldschooling connects education with travel, places and cultural experiences. Ask each family how learning is actually organised rather than assuming that a label describes one specific method.
Volunteering with homeschooling families
Some families may ask volunteers to share languages, music, arts, sports or other knowledge with their children. Educational support, childcare and household help are different responsibilities and should be clearly distinguished. When children are involved, confirm who supervises activities, what safeguarding rules apply and how privacy and photographs are handled.
