Fundraising volunteering involves helping an organisation obtain financial support for its activities or projects. This can include campaign planning, donor outreach, crowdfunding, sponsorship research, fundraising events, communications and other clearly defined activities. Grant writing can form part of fundraising, but it is a more specialised activity focused on applications to foundations, institutions or other funders.
Fundraising, grant writing and online volunteering
Fundraising roles often overlap with grant writing, marketing, social media and communications. Read the individual listing to understand which tasks are actually involved and what skills or experience the organisation expects.
Some organisations also recruit remote fundraisers. If working from home is important to you, look specifically for online volunteering opportunities rather than assuming that an on-site role can automatically be converted into remote volunteering.
