Explore volunteer projects related to domestic violence prevention, awareness, advocacy and organisational support. These opportunities may involve community education, communications, research, fundraising, campaigns or other clearly defined activities carried out through organisations working on domestic abuse and related issues.
This is a sensitive and deliberately specific archive. A listing should appear here only when domestic violence, intimate partner violence or abuse within family or intimate relationships is explicitly relevant to the project.
What is domestic violence? 🟣
Domestic violence refers to abuse occurring within intimate or family relationships and can include physical, sexual, psychological, controlling or economic abuse. Intimate partner violence is one form of domestic violence. Definitions and legal frameworks vary between countries, so projects should describe clearly which issue they address.
Volunteer roles and safeguarding
Many appropriate volunteer roles are indirect, such as awareness activities, research, communications, fundraising, administration or supporting locally led prevention programmes. Being tagged here does not mean that volunteers should have direct access to survivors.
Counselling, case management, crisis response, legal advice, medical care and other survivor-facing professional services should only be undertaken by people with appropriate training, qualifications, supervision and authorisation. Confidentiality, informed consent, privacy and secure handling of personal information are especially important in this context.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and ask the organisation exactly how the volunteer role relates to domestic violence prevention or support. Confirm the expected activities, qualifications, supervision, training, weekly hours, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any costs before applying.
If a role involves contact with survivors or other vulnerable people, ask specifically about safeguarding, confidentiality, professional boundaries, referral procedures and who is responsible for casework. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification or endorsement of an organisation or its safeguarding procedures.
