Camper, campervan or motorhome? 🚐
The terminology varies between countries. Campervan usually refers to a van converted for sleeping and basic living, while a motorhome is generally a larger purpose-built recreational vehicle. On this page, the terms are used broadly for volunteers travelling in a vehicle that can serve as their accommodation.
Before arriving with your vehicle
Ask whether there is enough space for your vehicle and whether access is suitable for its size and weight. Confirm the availability of drinking water, electricity, toilets, showers, waste disposal, kitchen facilities and internet if you need them. Rural access roads may also be difficult for larger or low-clearance vehicles.
Parking on private land does not automatically mean that overnight stays are permitted under local planning or camping rules. If this is relevant to your stay, ask the host about local conditions and check any rules that apply to your vehicle and destination.
