Malaysia 🇲🇾
Explore volunteering opportunities in Malaysia, including animal welfare, environmental projects, marine conservation, farms, cultural initiatives and hospitality exchanges.
Projects may be located across Peninsular Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo. Some listings are seasonal, archival or no longer active, so always check the publication date and confirm current availability directly with the host or organisation.
How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the host’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before accepting an opportunity, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any fees or contributions directly with the host. If money is requested, ask what the contribution covers before making a payment.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, collect programme fees, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Older announcements may remain online for archival and informational purposes.
Visas and volunteering in Malaysia
Entry and immigration requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay, host and planned activities. Tourist or short-term social visit status should not automatically be assumed to permit every form of volunteering or unpaid work exchange.
Malaysia has specific immigration routes for certain temporary professional, training and volunteer activities. Ask the host which arrangement applies to international participants and verify the requirements through the Malaysian Immigration Department. For organised activities that may fall under the Professional Visit Pass, see the official Professional Visit Pass information.
Current travel considerations
If a project is located in Sabah, check its exact location before travelling. Current travel advice recommends avoiding all but essential travel to islands and dive sites off the eastern coast of Sabah between Sandakan and Tawau because of the risk of kidnapping. This warning does not apply to mainland Sabah. Check current travel advice for Malaysia. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
