Volunteering across Chile 🇨🇱
Chile extends for thousands of kilometres along the Pacific coast of South America, with very different environments between the northern desert, central regions and Patagonia. Distances can be substantial, so check the exact location, climate and transport arrangements of each project before applying.
Volunteering and work exchanges in Chile

Several opportunities are located in remote or semi-rural areas. In Patagonia in particular, transport can involve long distances, limited connections and changing weather conditions. Ask the host for current arrival instructions before booking your journey.
Entry and work exchange conditions
Chile’s immigration rules distinguish between temporary visitors and people carrying out remunerated activities. Official guidance states that holders of Permanencia Transitoria cannot normally perform paid work, except for specific and occasional activities authorised by the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones.
The official guidance does not mean that every unpaid volunteering or accommodation-for-help arrangement is automatically permitted. If your stay involves regular work, compensation or another structured exchange, check what applies to your nationality and planned activities with the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones or the relevant Chilean consulate before travelling.
