Zambia 🇿🇲
Explore volunteering opportunities in Zambia, including community initiatives, education, non-profit organisations and other independent or structured volunteering experiences.
Some listings may be seasonal, archival or no longer active. Always check the publication date, exact location and current availability directly with the host or organisation before making travel plans.
How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, project dates and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.
Projects involving children, education, healthcare or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme. Older announcements may remain online for archival and informational purposes.
Visas and volunteering in Zambia
Entry and immigration requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Do not assume that visitor or tourist status automatically permits every form of structured volunteering, teaching or work exchange.
Zambia’s immigration rules expressly include some volunteers working with non-governmental organisations within its Employment Permit framework. The appropriate permit depends on the nature and duration of the placement.
Ask the host which immigration arrangement applies to your activities and verify it independently through the Zambia Department of Immigration before travelling.
Health and travel considerations
Yellow fever certification requirements depend on your travel route. A certificate is required when entering Zambia from a country classified as having a yellow fever transmission risk.
If a project is located in a remote area or close to the Democratic Republic of Congo border, confirm transport, communications and access to medical assistance. In rural border areas the boundary may not always be clearly marked, so use recognised border crossings and follow local instructions.
