Beneficio is an intentional community located near Órgiva in the Alpujarra region of southern Spain. Established over 30 years ago, it serves as a social experiment in communal living, attracting individuals from diverse nationalities, including China, Australia, South America, and the Netherlands.
Residents typically inhabit light shelters such as tents, benders, and tipis, though some have constructed more permanent structures, including straw bale buildings. The community is equipped with shared facilities like a large communal tipi, an outdoor kitchen, composting toilets, and a sports pitch. Additionally, small businesses operate within Beneficio, including a shop, bakeries, and ventures producing free-range eggs and cheese. The community sources its drinking water from a mountain spring.
