Build and repair hiking trails in Iceland with volunteers (Thórsmörk Trailteam.is)

Trailteam.is volunteers sitting on newly built wooden trail steps in Thórsmörk, Iceland, after a day of path repair and erosion control.

Trail steps like these help protect fragile slopes in Thórsmörk by keeping hikers on a stable route and reducing erosion.

With Trailteam.is, volunteers work in small international teams to build, repair and maintain paths in remote parts of South Iceland. Tasks can include constructing steps, shaping trail surfaces, and improving drainage, with hiking to the work sites as part of the day. The project is outdoor, practical, and physically demanding, but it is also rewarding to see results immediately. There is no participation fee. Food and campsite facilities are provided, but volunteers bring their own tents and personal gear. Check the official opportunities page for current dates and how to apply.
