The Ethiopian flag is one of the most recognisable symbols in Africa, featuring three horizontal stripes of green, yellow and red with a blue disc and yellow star at the center. These Pan-African colors have inspired many other national flags and are closely linked to the Rastafari movement. Green is often connected with the fertile land and hope for the future, yellow with justice and harmony among peoples, and red with the sacrifices made to defend the country. The modern emblem, a yellow pentagram on a blue circle, represents unity and equality among Ethiopiaâs diverse ethnic groups, underlining the nationâs long history as an independent state.
