European Solidarity Corps opportunity in Italy – Centro QR52 is a youth centre in Milan, dedicated to youngsters aged 11-19 from the neighbourhood. In the Youth Centre, they can meet their friends, take part in organised activities, play sports and receive support for their homework. It also includes activities for the elderly people of the community.

Volunteer tasks

June-July: Summer camp activities with children

• Animation and recreational activities for children (6-11 years old);
• Supervising children during summer camps.
• August-October: Support in the youth centre and activities with adults and elderly people
• Supporting the creation and maintenance of a vegetable garden;
• Homework support and recreational activities for children and teens;
• Holding English lessons for foreign women;
• Support with sports and other activities for a group of elderly people.

Volunteer profile

The profile of an ideal ESC volunteer. She must be:

• aged between 18 and 30 years old;
• resident in an EU country;
• be a girl because of accommodation arrangements;
• an open-minded young person with a positive attitude to work in an education and training programme with children, teens and the elderly;
• ready and motivated to interact with local people and live a deep cultural experience;
• patient, kind, polite, tolerant, able to listen actively and willing to work in a team;
• active and interested in sports activities;
• good knowledge of English.

Benefits

The travel costs will be reimbursed up to a certain amount allocated by the European Commission; accommodation and food are provided by the hosting organisation. The volunteers will also receive monthly pocket money.
