Nepal volunteer exchange at a Himalayan community library | Books 4 Nepal

Colourful one-storey Rasuwa Community Library building in rural Nepal, with painted murals and forested Himalayan hills in the background.

Books4Nepal and local partner HHCP have built the first library and school resource centre in the remote Rasuwa district of Nepal. Volunteers with some library or information-management experience are invited for 2 to 12 weeks between March and December to help organise the new Himalayan library. Tasks include cataloguing, classifying and indexing books, setting up simple systems and training a local staff member to run the library day to day.

In return, volunteers receive free food and accommodation in the village. Volunteers cover their own travel costs to Nepal and to the project site. The library is close to Langtang National Park, so free time can include trekking and exploring traditional mountain communities. This project suits independent, adaptable people who enjoy quiet rural life, children and books, and who want to support long-term access to education for marginalised Himalayan communities.
